Memorial Day & Frontiersman head Newbury contingent

Impressive recent handicap winners Memorial Day and Frontiersman step up to G3 level for the Worthington's OCSL Stakes (14.20hrs local time) over a mile and a half at Newbury, UK, on Saturday, October 22.

Five-year-old Memorial Day (Saeed bin Suroor/Adam Kirby), a son of Cape Cross, makes his second appearance of 2016, having powered to an eight-length success over two furlongs shorter at Pontefract on September 22.

Lightly-raced three-year-old Dubawi colt Frontiersman (Charlie Appleby/James Doyle) gained an easy win on his first try over a mile and a half at Newmarket on September 22 and also won a 10-furlong maiden at Newbury in July.

Saeed bin Suroor reported: "Memorial Day won nicely last time out and has been working well.

"Stepping back up in distance should be no problem and he goes into this race in good form."

Charlie Appleby said: "Moving up to a mile and a half saw further improvement from Frontiersman on his latest start and we feel that he deserves another rise in class.

"He has won at Newbury before and returns to the course in good order."

A field of 16 for the Worthington's OCSL Stakes also includes dual G3 scorer Kings Fete, G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes third Western Hymn and last year’s winner Koora.

On the same card, Silver Line (Saeed bin Suroor/Frederik Tylicki) races over seven furlongs for the first time in the 15-runner G3 Worthington’s Alzheimers Society Stakes (13.45hrs).

The two-year-old colt has shown a decent level of form over shorter distances, including when taking third in the five-furlong G2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, and came home fifth on his latest outing in a York Listed race over six furlongs on October 8.

Saeed bin Suroor added: "Silver Line tries hard in his races but we are looking for a better run from him this time.

"Seven furlongs will be fine for him and good ground would be ideal."

Shamardal filly Nasimi (Charlie Appleby/James Doyle), who made an impressive winning debut at Haydock Park in May, lines up in the Listed JLT Stakes (15.20hrs) over seven furlongs for two-year-old fillies.
