Maxfield sidelined due to injury

Following a half-mile workout this morning at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, G1 winner Maxfield was x-rayed and a non-displaced condylar fracture was discovered in his right front cannon bone. 

Godolphin president Jimmy Bell commented, “This is a very disappointing event, obviously, but we are certainly grateful that Maxfield’s injury wasn’t worse and we look forward to seeing him return to the races next year.”

The three-year-old son of Street Sense won last year’s G1 Breeders’ Futurity and returned in 2020 to win the G3 Matt Winn on Saturday, May 23. He was scheduled to run in the G2 Blue Grass Stakes next month.
