Mary Tudor out to rule at the Curragh

Racenews

G1 Darley Irish Oaks third Mary Tudor drops back down in class and trip for the G3 Snow Fairy Stakes over nine furlongs at the Curragh, Ireland, on Saturday, 1 September.

The three-year-old Dawn Approach filly ran an excellent race in the 12-furlong Classic at the same course on 21 July, when she chased home subsequent G1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks winner Sea Of Class and Forever Together, successful in the G1 Oaks at Epsom Downs in June.

Mary Tudor, trained by Willie McCreery and ridden by Billy Lee, started her campaign with three appearances over shorter distances, headed by a decisive victory on her seasonal return in the Listed Salsabil Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Navan in April.

She tackles 10 rivals in the Snow Fairy Stakes headed by York Listed winner Desert Diamond, G2 runner-up I’m So Fancy and G3 scorer Turret Rocks.

Willie McCreery said: “Mary Tudor is in great form and enjoys racing at the Curragh.

“The ground will be beautiful and it will be good to get some more experience into her ahead of the G2 Blandford Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend (16 September).

“We feel that everything will suit her and she has a good chance.”

Godolphin has three runners in the premier handicap on the same card, the Irish Cambridgeshire, including Terzetto (Michael Halford/Chris Hayes), who is seeking a second straight win over a mile at the Curragh following a cosy neck success on 22 July.

The progressive Iffraaj filly is joined by recent G3 Desmond Stakes third Zorion (Jim Bolger/Kevin Manning) and Saltonstall (Michael Halford/Niall McCullagh), a course and distance scorer on 27 May.
