Marsupial capable of Stakes breakthrough in Fred Best

The outstanding form in which Marsupial has found himself can be continued in the G3 Fred Best Classic at Doomben on Saturday, 26 May.

Marsupial (Tye Angland) hasn’t been out of a place in his past seven starts, following wins at Warwick Farm and Doomben with his most recent second to Perast in Listed company two weeks ago.

“He’s in the best shape of his preparation,” said trainer James Cummings.

“His form this time in has been excellent around all the nice horses and with a couple of wins under his belt he’s obviously a horse who’s full of confidence.”

If there is a question mark over Marsupial, Cummings believes it could be the conditions of the race which place him on similar terms to horses who have Stakes wins to their credit.

“Under the set weights conditions he’s probably got his work cut out turning the tables on Perast who has also been looking good this week,” Cummings said.

“But Marsupial is in such great shape that he’s certainly a horse worth following.”

On the same card, Cummings is hoping his talented two-year-old Dynamited can return to the form that allowed him to win on debut last spring when he runs in the G2 BRC Sires Produce Stakes.

In his only run since that victory, Dynamited (Tye Angland) finished fifth to Zousain in the G2 Champagne Classic at Doomben two weeks ago.

“He needs to lift a little after being fractionally below where we thought he was first up in the Champagne Classic,” Cummings said.

“The addition of winkers (cheek pieces) to help him concentrate and switch on a little more will make it interesting to see what sort of improvement he can make this weekend.”

Zousain opposes Dynamited and along with the talented Graff, who is unbeaten in his only two starts, represents the obvious danger.
