Its Somewhat ready for return to Stakes form

Mike Hedge

A race he won two years ago provides the perfect opportunity for a return to top form for G1 winner Its Somewhat at Randwick on Saturday, 13 October.

Along with stablemate Allergic (Josh Parr), It’s Somewhat (Brenton Avdulla) runs in the G3 Craven Plate with the full confidence of trainer James Cummings.

“I deliberately gave him two grounding runs at 1600m and he responded with an excellent third-up effort last start in the Hill Stakes which should be good form for this race,” Cumming said.

“I’m confident we’ve got him perfect for the Craven Plate on a signature day.”

It’s Somewhat had been placed in the G1 Eclipse Stakes in England before embarking on an Australian career in which he has earned some A$3 million, highlighted by victory in the G1 Doncaster Handicap.

Allergic is also looking for his best form and his trainer believes he might need to wait one more week to find it.

“Allergic is running at weight-for-age here which won’t suit him,” he said.

“All being well you can expect to see him back up in the City Tatts Cup next weekend. That should suit him nicely.”

The Randwick Stakes-race team is completed by Cristobal who has a change of gear for her appearance in the Listed Reginald Allen Stakes.

“She turned in a strong finish against the boys last time and despite carrying a penalty here, this is a suitable target for her,” Cummings said.

“She has been pretty plain in trackwork so we’ve added blinkers which should sharpen her up.”
