International Stakes gives chance for Moonlight Magic

Racenews
Moonlight Magic returns to the Curragh, Ireland, for the G3 International Stakes over a mile and a quarter on Sunday, July 2.

The Jim Bolger-trained four-year-old colt drops down in class after coming home seventh at the same course on his latest outing in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup over half a furlong further on May 28.

He was runner-up to multiple G1 winner Minding on his first start of the season in the 10-furlong G3 Mooresbridge Stakes at Naas on May 1, and scored at G3 level over the same trip last year in the Leopardstown Derby Trial.

Jimmy Hyland of Godolphin commented: “We have lowered Moonlight Magic’s sights after he disappointed in the Tattersalls Gold Cup last time.

“His recent work has been very pleasing and we are expecting a good run.”

Moonlight Magic, with Kevin Manning again in the saddle, lines up against five others including dual G1 winner The Grey Gatsby plus Success Days and Johannes Vermeer, who were fourth and fifth in the Tattersalls Gold Cup.
