Horses To Follow in 2016 - Ireland

J A McGrath
Godolphin horses to watch this season in Ireland, with comments from their trainers

ANAMBA
Filly 3yo (Shamardal - Anamato)
Michael Halford: She had only two starts at two, winning first time out and being G3 placed on the other outing. She has strengthened up well over the winter. She needs fast ground to be seen at her best, and one mile looks an ideal trip for her. She will start off in the G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh on May 22.

ARIDITY
Gelding 3yo (Teofilo - Cloudspin)
Willie McCreery: He has been gelded since he ran last year. He is a powerful galloping type, who should be suited by 10f. I plan to start him off in a maiden in the next few weeks. I would hope that he can progress during the year.

BEAN FEASA
Filly 2yo (Dubawi - Speirbhean)
Jim Bolger: She made a very pleasing debut at Naas when finishing second in what looked a strong maiden. We aim to win a race with her before looking at stepping her up in grade later in the season.

LUCIDA
Filly 4yo (Shamardal - Lura)
Jim Bolger: She is being prepared for the G2 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes at the Curragh on Irish Guineas weekend (21-22 May). We are very happy with her progress so far.

MOONLIGHT MAGIC
Colt 3yo (Cape Cross - Melikah)
Jim Bolger: He had been training very well before last Sunday's G2 Derrinstown Derby Trial at Leopardstown, which he duly won in good style. I feel he was as good in winning that trial as St Jovite (1992 Irish Derby and King George winner) was in his year. I think he will be suited by Epsom.

PORTAGE
Colt 4yo (Teofilo - Galley)
Michael Halford: He is lightly-raced for his age. He has won over one mile but he looks like he could comfortably step up to 10f. He won on soft ground at Ascot last year, but we have always thought he would be suited by good ground. He will start his season in a handicap at the Curragh on Irish Guineas weekend.

SHRILL
Filly 3yo (Shamardal - Wood Vine)
Willie McCreery: She is very fast and tough and will improve through the season. Whether she improves enough to go to Royal Ascot, we will soon find out. She holds an entry in a Listed race at Navan on Sunday. She is very ground dependant - she needs it good to firm.

TOSCANINI
Gelding 4yo (Shamardal - Tuzla)
Michael Halford: He has been gelded since returning from Dubai. He is rated 110 and has some solid form in sprints to his credit. He loves fast ground and is now mature enough to put his sprinting experience to good use. He starts his season in a 5f conditions race at Cork on May 19.
