Global Storm third in G2 Dubai City Of Gold

Racenews

Global Storm produced another strong performance over a mile and a half at Meydan, UAE, as he finished third in the G2 Dubai City Of Gold Sponsored By Emirates Skywards on Super Saturday, 5 March.

The Night Of Thunder five-year-old, making his Group-race debut for Charlie Appleby following a handicap success over the course and distance in February, broke smartly and soon tracked the leaders in fourth of the 14 runners.

Global Storm was angled out turning for home and stayed on in the straight, despite drifting towards the centre of the course with a furlong and a half to race.

William Buick was forced to switch Global Storm again after being caught short of room by Hukum and Without A Fight inside the final furlong, with the Godolphin runner keeping on to go down by just over two and a quarter lengths.

Charlie Appleby said: “We were pleased with Global Storm, who acquitted himself well on his first start in Group company. I’m hoping that he can pick up a Listed or Group race over a similar distance back in Europe now.”
