G3 Prix Perth second and third for Godolphin

Graphite finished just in front of Wootton when the Godolphin runners were second and third in the mile G3 Prix Perth at Saint-Cloud, France, on Saturday, 27 October

Wootton, trained by Henri-Alex Pantall and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, broke well and led the seven-strong field at a steady pace.

The three-year-old colt, kicked for home entering the straight, was headed by the winner Auenperle a furlong out and kept on well. He lost second by a short-head close home to Graphite (Andre Fabre/Pierre-Charles Boudot).

Graphite, a four-year-old grey by Shamardal, raced as a close second towards the outside and tried to challenge in the final furlong, staying on to just get the better of Wootton for second. Auenperle scored by half a length in 1m 45.27s on ground described officially as good.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin reported: “Graphite fought on well for second.

“Wootton was a good third, though it is disappointing that he has not won as everything went his way in the race.”
