G1 Prix du Moulin third for Line Of Duty

Racenews

Line Of Duty produced another fine effort over a mile when finishing third in the G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp at Longchamp, France, on Sunday, 8 September.

The three-year-old colt, who filled the same position for trainer Charlie Appleby in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois over the same trip at Deauville on Sunday, 11 August, broke well and was held up in seventh of the 10 runners by William Buick.

Line Of Duty was switched out to deliver his challenge at the top of the straight and quickened strongly entering the final furlong to take third from Olmedo near the line.

Circus Maximus survived a stewards’ enquiry to beat Prix Jacques le Marois winner Romanised by a nose in 1m 36.54s on good to soft ground, with a length back to Line Of Duty.

Charlie Appleby said: “I was delighted with Line Of Duty, who has backed up his good run in the Prix Jacques le Marois with another excellent performance.

“A mile is definitely his best trip and we might think about supplementing him for the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (1m) at Ascot on Champions Day (Saturday, 19 October). He enjoys cut in the ground and could get his ideal conditions there.”
