Carry On Deryck third in Sovereign Stakes

Racenews
Carry On Deryck ran well to finish a close third on his seasonal return in the G3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury, UK, on Thursday, August 17.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained five-year-old raced in second of the six runners for the majority of the mile contest before staying on well under William Carson to briefly take the lead a furlong and a half from home.

He rallied after being headed by Ballet Concerto and battled with Tabarrak inside the final furlong, losing out for second on the line to go down by a neck and a short-head.

Ballet Concerto won in 1m 42.49s on ground described as good, good to firm in places

Saeed bin Suroor said: “I was pleased with Carry On Deryck’s performance and expect him to come on for his first run of the year.

“He has a few options coming up, including the G2 Anatolia Trophy (1m 2f, September 2) and the G2 Topkapi Trophy (1m, September 3) at Veliefendi in Turkey.

“We will see how he comes out of this race before deciding where to go next.”
