Brian The Snail up for Stewards' Cup

Racenews
The Richard Fahey-trained Brian The Snail attempts to bounce back to form in the £250,000 Stewards’ Cup, one of Europe’s richest handicaps, on the final day of Glorious Goodwood, UK, on Saturday, August 5.

The three-year-old colt made an exciting seasonal return with an impressive victory in a six-furlong handicap at Pontefract in April but has disappointed in three subsequent appearances.

After trailing home last in a York Listed race over five furlongs on May 18, Brian The Snail was sixth of seven behind Harry Angel in the six-furlong G2 Sandy Lane Stakes nine days later at Haydock Park and failed to get competitive in a valuable Newmarket handicap, also over six furlongs, on July 13.

He breaks from stall two in a maximum field of 28 for the Stewards’ Cup, run over a straight six furlongs, with Wokingham Handicap third Projection and recent Ascot scorer Danzeno among the leading contenders.

Richard Fahey said: “Brian The Snail is a very reliable horse in his homework, but his last three runs have been disappointing.

“We are hoping that putting blinkers on him can bring about an improved performance.”
