Athasi Stakes reappearance for Dawn Delivers

Racenews

Dawn Delivers makes her seasonal debut in the seven-furlong G3 Athasi Stakes for fillies and mares at Naas, Ireland, on Monday, 7 May.

The three-year-old New Approach filly, trained by Jim Bolger, started her career last year by finishing runner-up in a couple of maidens over six furlongs, being beaten by US Navy Flag on the second occasion.

She won a similar race at the Curragh on 16 July when overcoming Magical by a half-length on fast turf.

Dawn Delivers then stepped up to Group races, going for the G3 Flash Stakes over an extra furlong at Leopardstown on 27 July, in which she finished third to Happily, and the G2 Debutante Stakes back at the Curragh on 20 August when fading to seventh of the eight runners behind Magical on soft going.

Drawn in stall four and ridden as usual by Kevin Manning, she takes on five rivals including promising Lightening Quick and recent Leopardstown G3 second Yulong Gold Fairy.

Jimmy Hyland of Godolphin commented: “Dawn Delivers was very consistent as a two-year-old, only finishing out of the frame on her final start of 2017 on unsuitable soft ground.

“She beat subsequent G2 winner Magical and previously finished second to US Navy Flag who went on to win to G1s.

“Dawn Delivers is expected to be competitive in this six-runner event.”
