Asiago resumes with ominous Listed success at Wyong

A brilliant, winning return to racing by Asiago in the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong on Friday, 4 August has offered the promise of a strong spring campaign ahead.

An Oaks contender when last in work, Asiago has won twice at G3 level in longer races than the 1,350m of her latest success.

The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro raced kindly in a three-wide trail until turning into the short Wyong straight where she produced a stunning turn of foot to reel in the leaders and race clear to win by a length from Wandabaa with Missybeel in third place.

Stable spokesman Nacim Dilmi said the filly had won despite the race being run at a leisurely speed.

“The tempo didn’t really suit her, but her first-up form showed she could run a good race,” Dilmi said.
