Anamoe juggernaut rolls on with George Ryder Stakes win

Racenews

Anamoe secured a sixth G1 victory this season, and ninth in total, as he overcame a wide trip to take the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Australia’s premier weight-for-age horse once again displayed the qualities of a champion with a determined success, despite James McDonald having to sit three-wide for much of the race.

Only Winx, herself successful in the George Ryder Stakes on four occasions, has won more Australian G1 races during a season in the modern era. Anamoe will get the opportunity to match the outstanding mare’s tally of seven in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick next month.

A red-letter day for Godolphin in Australia also saw Zapateo pick up a third G3 success in the Birthday Card Stakes and Parisal graduate to G3 honours in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes. Cylinder and Pericles filled the runner-up spot in the Golden Slipper and Rosehill Guineas respectively, while veteran Cascadian chased home Mr Brightside in the All-Star Mile.

Rosehill hosts the final day of its Golden Slipper Festival this weekend, with Alegron in the frame for the Tancred Stakes, while crack sprinter Paulele features among the latest confirmations for the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday.

Dubai World Cup Night dominates the international scene on Saturday, with Godolphin represented by runners from Japan and France in addition to a strong UAE-based contingent.

February Stakes hero Lemon Pop will be hoping to secure back-to-back G1 wins in the Dubai Golden Shaheen, with Botanik joining Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Rebel’s Romance in the Dubai Sheema Classic. Real World and Nations Pride also feature among the royal blue contenders for Meydan’s showpiece meeting.
