Al Suhail in a different league to Ras Al Khor rivals

Racenews

Al Suhail lowered his own course record at Meydan with another scintillating display over seven furlongs in the Ras Al Khor Sponsored by Emirates Airline on Super Saturday, 4 March.

The son of Dubawi had already made a spectacular start to his six-year-old campaign when swooping from the rear to take the G2 Al Fahidi Fort by four lengths.

Ridden closer to the pace by William Buick this time, Al Suhail disputed third on the inside of Path Of Thunder as Ajwad set the early fractions.

Al Suhail cruised into the race after a gap presented itself two furlongs out and the Charlie Appleby-trained runner readily took the lead from Internationalangel over a furlong from home.

He soon streaked away from the field and was eased close home to cross the line four lengths clear of San Donato in 1m 21.46s, shaving over a tenth of a second off the record he set in the Al Fahidi Fort.

Charlie Appleby said: “We were obviously delighted with Al Suhail, who has put up another good performance to break his own track record. We will most likely bring him back to the UK and look at the nice seven-furlong races in Europe over the summer.”

William Buick said: “It was a very different set-up to the Al Fahidi Fort, but Al Suhail showed his versatility today. As long as he gets a good pace to run at, he has a huge engine. He is a hugely exciting horse to ride and watch.

“He seems to be taking things in his stride a little bit more this year. He is not a young horse these days but he might just be learning to relax. If he can channel that energy, then he can run like he did tonight.”
