Aablan pulls G3 Solario Stakes out of the fire

Racenews

Highly promising juvenile Aablan maintained an unbeaten start to his career with a determined victory in the G3 Solario Stakes at Sandown Park, UK, on Saturday, 2 September.

Stepping up in class on the back of a Newmarket maiden win, the Dubawi homebred raced keenly early on as he disputed third on the outside of Mortlake.

James Doyle angled Aablan out approaching the three-furlong pole and the Charlie Appleby-trained colt closed in on the leading duo of Inishfallen and Cerulean Bay soon after.

Inishfallen found more in front, with Starlore launching a strong challenge entering the final furlong as Aablan drifted under pressure. Aablan stayed on gamely between Inishfallen and Starlore inside the final furlong, collaring the long-time leader in the closing strides for a neck success.

James Doyle said: “We knew Aablan had ability going into his first run, although they didn’t go much of a gallop that day and he got a bit lost when I asked him to go for home. He probably looked a bit workmanlike and we had plenty to learn about him with the step up in class here.

“He really pleased me. We had the widest stall but he popped out well and we were able to get cover immediately. It took him a little time to settle into a rhythm and he doesn’t do anything electrically quick but goes through his gears. They all had a crack at him and he showed he is a high-quality animal with the will to win, which is very pleasing at this stage of his career.”
