Wuheida skips Goodwood for German Oaks

Racenews

Three-year-old filly Wuheida, a non-runner in the G1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on August 3, heads instead to Dusseldorf, Germany, for the G1 Preis der Diana - the German Oaks - on Sunday, August 6.

The Charlie Appleby-trained daughter of Dubawi, with William Buick again in the saddle, steps up to 11 furlongs following an excellent seasonal return over a mile in the G1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket’s July Festival on July 14, when she kept on to finish second behind Roly Poly.

Wuheida was successful on both of her two-year-old starts, following up victory in a seven-furlong Newmarket maiden in August with a comfortable three quarters of a length success in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac over a mile at Chantilly, France, in October.

She faces 15 other three-year-old fillies in the Preis der Diana including G2 Diana-Trial scorer Tusked Wings plus G3 winners Lacazar and Well Spoken.

Charlie Appleby said: “We were delighted with Wuheida on her seasonal reappearance and she came out of the Falmouth Stakes well.

“It was always the plan to step her up in trip afterwards and ground conditions meant that we had to give the Nassau Stakes a miss.

“She is clear on official ratings and goes into the race in good order.”
