Wuheida out to bloom in Dahlia Stakes

Racenews

Top-class filly Wuheida commences her four-year-old campaign in the G2 Dahlia Stakes over nine furlongs on day two of Newmarket’s Guineas Festival, Sunday, 6 May.

The Charlie Appleby-trained daughter of Dubawi, with William Buick up, makes her first appearance since storming ahead for a decisive victory in the G1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf over the same distance at Del Mar, USA, at the start of November.

Wuheida ran well in four other races last year, all G1, including when coming home second in the Falmouth Stakes over a mile on Newmarket’s July Course.

She also captured the mile G1 Prix Marcel Boussac at Chantilly as a two-year-old in 2016.

Wuheida takes on seven fillies and mares on her seasonal return, with French G3 winner Golden Legend and Irish challenger Elegant Pose set to provide the main opposition.

Charlie Appleby said: “Wuheida travelled back from Dubai earlier this week, having wintered very well out there.

She has done well from three to four and this looks a nice starting point for her.

“I am confident that she is going to run a big race if she brings her G1 form to the table.

“It will be her first start of the year and she will come on for it, but I have been very happy with her preparation.

“She has an array of options this season – whether we stay in Europe or go back to America for the summer – and we will see where we are with her on Sunday before deciding her campaign.”
