Walk Of Stars goes close in G3 Bahrain Trophy

Racenews

Walk Of Stars bounced back to form as he was edged out in a three-way photo-finish to the G3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket, UK, on Thursday, 7 July.

The Charlie Appleby-trained son of Dubawi, who had been gelded since failing to beat a rival in the G1 Derby, was held up at the rear of the six runners as Al Qareem established a clear lead over the field.

Walk Of Stars stayed on between horses to hold every chance under William Buick just inside the final furlong. He continued to battle with Deauville Legend and the rallying Al Qareem as the trio went clear in the closing stages, going down by a head and a short-head in a thrilling climax to the 13-furlong contest.

Charlie Appleby said: “It was a better run from Walk Of Stars and it looks as though we are slowly getting back on track. He is a work in progress now he is gelded, but at least that was a better performance than we saw last time.”
