Tower Of London goes for NHK Mile Cup

Racenews

Exciting three-year-old colt Tower Of London returns to G1 level for the NHK Mile Cup at Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, 6 May.

The son of Raven’s Pass, trained by Kazuo Fujisawa, made an impressive seasonal return in the G3 Arlington Cup over the same distance at Hanshin on 14 April, when he quickened strongly to score by half a length.

Tower Of London, a winner on four of his six starts, was third on his only previous G1 appearance in the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes, also over a mile, at Hanshin in December and stormed to a decisive win in the seven-furlong G2 Keio Hai Nisai Stakes at Tokyo in November.

He is ridden as usual by Christophe Lemaire.

Harry Sweeney, President of Godolphin in Japan, commented: “Tower of London unquestionably has talent.

“He worked really well during the week and the stable have plenty of confidence, while he also received a good draw in stall seven.

“However, there are 17 other runners in the field - six of whom are already Group winners and a further eight who have placed in top-tier races - so it will be a really true test.

“That being said, we will be very disappointed if he doesn’t at a minimum make the frame.”
