Third for Al Dabaran in G2 Queen’s Vase

Racenews

Al Dabaran made a pleasing start to his three-year-old campaign when coming home third in the G2 Queen’s Vase on day four of Royal Ascot, Friday, 19 June.

Stepping up to a mile and three-quarters for the first time, the Dubawi colt was short of room leaving the stalls and soon raced in a clear third of the eight-strong field.

Al Dabaran was switched out to deliver his challenge by William Buick with half a mile left and moved up to briefly press for the lead passing the two-furlong marker. He kept on in the closing stages to go down by just over 11 lengths in total.

His trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Al Dabaran ran a good race. We feel that he saw the trip out – he got a little tired at the end but was entitled to on his first run of the year. He will hopefully come on for his seasonal return and should be a nice stayer for the future.”
