Superb weekend in Canada brings up 350 G1 wins

Racenews

A well-executed plan produced rich dividends over the weekend, with horses from Moulton Paddocks securing four major victories in North America, including a clean sweep of all three G1 prizes at Woodbine in Canada.

Walton Street started the ball rolling as he gained a deserved first G1 success with an emphatic display in Saturday’s G1 Canadian International. The ultra-consistent seven-year-old now looks set to bid for further top-flight honours in the final G1 of the European season, the Grosser Preis von Bayern, in November.

Godolphin captured both of Woodbine’s G1 races for juveniles on Sunday, with Wild Beauty overcoming trouble at the start for an authoritative win in the Natalma Stakes. Victory in the mile contest earned the Frankel homebred a place in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and she will hopefully take her chance at Del Mar in early November.

Albahr also received a Breeders’ Cup berth for the Juvenile Turf following a comprehensive success in the G1 Summer Stakes on the same card, recording Godolphin’s 350th G1 win in the process. He could also head to Del Mar, with the three-year-old programme at next year’s Dubai World Cup Carnival under consideration as well.

At Belmont Park on Saturday, Yibir flew home to take the US$1million Jockey Club Derby, another race to offer an automatic spot for the Breeders’ Cup. Travelling back to the United States for the Breeders’ Cup Turf is an option for the son of Dubawi.

Last season’s Sires’ Produce Stakes victor Anamoe will look for a second G1 success in this Saturday’s Golden Rose at Rosehill. The Street Boss colt made an exciting return to action when taking out the G2 Run To The Rose – a race also won by 2019 Golden Rose hero Bivouac.

Highly regarded three-year-old Speaker’s Corner will also be hoping for G1 honours in the Pennsylvania Derby on the same day in North America following an impressive comeback win at Saratoga in August.

Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire Meeting looks set to feature several Godolphin runners, with Benbatl, Master Of The Seas and Real World all featuring among the latest acceptors for Friday’s G2 Joel Stakes.
