Sound And Silence looks to Charge home at Sandown

Racenews

Three-year-old sprinter Sound And Silence remains over five furlongs at Sandown Park, UK, as he bids for a second G3 success in the Coral Charge on Saturday, 7 July.

The Charlie Appleby-trained Exceed And Excel colt, a convincing winner of the six-furlong G3 Prix Eclipse at Maisons-Laffitte, France, in September, kept on in fourth after leading two out in the Listed Scurry Stakes, run over the same course and distance as the Coral Charge, on 16 June.

Sound And Silence finished down the field on his first two appearances this year, but showed a high level of form as a two-year-old, with two Listed victories over five furlongs, including the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, to add to his Prix Eclipse success.

The Godolphin runner faces nine rivals in the Coral Charge, headed by dual G2 winner Muthmir, G1 King’s Stand Stakes sixth Different League and the first two home in the Scurry Stakes – Haddaf and Tricksy Spirit. Drawn in stall six, he is ridden again by William Buick.

Charlie Appleby commented: “Sound And Silence was a model of consistency as a two-year-old, but has found it tougher this year, particularly with his penalty for winning the Prix Eclipse.

“He doesn’t have to run under a penalty this time, which should put him back into contention, and I hope that he can run a solid race.”
