Siskany stamps class on G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy

Racenews

Siskany secured another significant staying prize at Meydan, UAE, with a decisive victory in the G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy on Friday, 17 February.

Last season’s Listed Al Khail Trophy winner was covered up in sixth as Emperor Of The Sun led from Kemari for the majority of the 14-furlong turf contest.

Siskany started to make headway with three furlongs to race before William Buick angled out the Charlie Appleby-trained son of Dubawi at the top of the straight.

Kemari took up the running with just over two furlongs to race and soon opened up daylight, with Siskany staying on powerfully to reel in his stable-companion over half a furlong out.

Siskany readily asserted to score by two lengths and provide Godolphin with a seventh consecutive Nad Al Sheba Trophy success. Kemari was passed by Ardakan and Al Nayyir in the closing strides to come home a close fourth.

William Buick said: “Siskany had not raced for a while and was a bit fresh. He was over-racing in stages a little but it was a really pleasing performance from him.

“He stays well and, like any good stayer, he has that gear change over this trip, which sets him apart in this company. He quickened up really well.

“He has been a rock-solid horse from day one and hopefully he can make up into a G2 Dubai Gold Cup contender.”
