European Champion Two-Year-Old Shadow Of Light returns to six furlongs for the G1 Commonwealth Cup on day four of Royal Ascot, Friday, 20 June.

The Lope de Vega colt produced a sensational display on his most recent appearance over the distance as he readily beat Prix Morny winner Whistlejacket by four lengths in the G1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket in September.

Shadow Of Light returned to the Rowley Mile two weeks later to gamely capture the G1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes, becoming only the second Middle Park Stakes winner in 42 years to follow up in the seven-furlong contest.

Stepped up to a mile for the G1 2,000 Guineas on his seasonal return, Shadow Of Light ran a fine race in the Newmarket Classic as he finished a close third behind Ruling Court and Field Of Gold.

Charlie Appleby said: “Shadow Of Light is in great order, and I’m pleased with the draw [19]. He ran a great race in the 2,000 Guineas and we are confident that the drop back to six furlongs is going to suit. I can’t give any negatives and I’m hopeful that he is the one to beat.”
