Secret Number tries for Legacy success

Racenews

Lightly-raced seven-year-old Secret Number goes after a second straight Pattern victory in the G3 Legacy Cup over 11 furlongs at Newbury, UK, on Saturday, September 23.

The son of Raven’s Pass, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, made an impressive return to action in 2017 with a cosy two-length verdict in the G2 International Bosphorus Cup over a furlong further at Veliefendi, Turkey, on September 3.

Secret Number was restricted to three appearances during 2016, following up a smooth win in a 10-furlong Listed race at Ayr with two starts in Australia, including when finishing down the field in the G1 Emirates Melbourne Cup over two miles at Flemington.

Saeed bin Suroor said: “Secret Number won nicely on his first start of this season in Turkey and came out of that race in good form.

“The track at Newbury and the quicker ground will suit him. He is ready to go again and I am hoping for another good run.”

Secret Number, partnered again by Gerald Mosse, is due to meet 10 rivals in the Legacy Cup, which also features G1 Eclipse Stakes third Desert Encounter, recent Windsor G3 winner Fabricate and German G1 victor Second Step.
