Right On Cue second in G3 Silk Road Stakes

Racenews

Right On Cue added another G3 placing over six furlongs to his consistent profile as he was collared close home in the Silk Road Stakes at Chukyo, Japan, on Sunday, 31 January.

The Shamardal entire had yet to finish out of the first six in four previous G3 appearances over the same distance for trainer Mitsugu Kon, including a decisive win in the Keihan Hai at Kyoto in November, 2019.

Smartly into stride under Yoshihiro Furukawa, Right On Cue soon settled in fifth on the inside rail. The six-year-old quickened strongly to hit the front entering the final furlong but could not resist the late charge of Shivaji, who headed the Godolphin runner near the line before going away for a length and a quarter success.

Harry Sweeney, President of Godolphin in Japan, said: “We are delighted with the run of Right On Cue. It was a very solid performance, especially as he was giving 1.5kg to the winner. His trainer reported that the horse was in fact only 80 per cent fit and that his main target this is the G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen in two months’ time. Overall, it was a very pleasing effort.”
