Return to France by Bay Of Poets in Prix du Prince d’Orange

Racenews

Bay Of Poets has his fourth 2017 start in France in the G3 Prix du Prince d’Orange over a mile and a quarter at Maisons-Laffitte on Saturday, September 16.

The Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old came good in the third French raid, running on strongly for a clear-cut success in the nine-furlong Listed Prix Pelleas at Clairefontaine on August 18.

He finished runner-up over a mile in the Listed Prix de Tourgeville at Deauville on August 1 and was beaten three lengths in total when coming home seventh in the French Classic, the G1 Prix du Jockey Club over an extended 10 furlongs at Chantilly in June.

Cristian Demuro, on board for the Bay Of Poets’ two most recent starts, takes the ride again on the son of Lope De Vega, who opposes five rivals including Prix du Jockey Club third Recoletos and G1 Secretariat Stakes third Afandem.

Charlie Appleby said: “Bay Of Poets won nicely over nine furlongs last time out and this trip should suit him well, together with the forecast soft ground.

“He was gelded earlier in the season and we feel that we know how to ride him now. The ground out in France has been more suitable this season and I think the style of racing suits him as he has a decent turn of foot off a steady pace.

“A repeat of his latest run will make him very competitive.”
