Godolphin’s most-decorated horse in training Rebel’s Romance stretches out to a mile and six furlongs for the first time in the G2 Yorkshire Cup at York, UK, on Friday, 16 May.

The Charlie Appleby-trained superstar has raced almost exclusively at a mile and a half since switching to turf in 2022, with seven G1 wins over the trip including a Dubai Sheema Classic, two renewals of the Breeders’ Cup Turf and the Champions & Chater Cup.

Having easily won Qatar’s G3 H H The Amir Trophy for a second time in February, Rebel’s Romance ran a brave race in defeat as he came home fourth behind Danon Decile, Calandagan and Durezza when attempting to defend his G1 Dubai Sheema Classic crown.

Charlie Appleby said: “Rebel’s Romance goes into this in great shape. He is stepping up a couple of furlongs, but we feel that it should be within his compass. If he does get the trip, he will obviously be a leading player. I can’t fault how he well he is at the moment, he looks fantastic, and I think the track at York will suit as well.”
