Prize Money heads Godolphin quartet in City Of Gold

Recent handicap winner Prize Money features among four Godolphin runners in the 12-furlong G2 Dubai City Of Gold Sponsored By Emirates SkyCargo (17.10hrs local time) on turf at Meydan, UAE on Super Saturday, March 4,

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained four-year-old, a G3 runner-up behind Hawkbill at Royal Ascot last year, defied top-weight for a cosy neck success under Adrie de Vries, who takes the ride again, in a turf handicap over the same course and distance on February 11.

Saeed bin Suroor is also responsible for Memorial Day (Jim Crowley), who returns to turf after disappointing on dirt in the Listed Curlin Handicap on February 23, and Famous Kid (Oisin Murphy), a 14-furlong turf handicap winner at Meydan in 2015.

The trainer commented: “Prize Money is improving all of the time and a mile and a half suits him well.

“This is going to be a much tougher race and Postponed looks the one to beat. Prize Money is on the upgrade and is very fit, so I hope there are no excuses for him.

“Memorial Day disappointed last time but came out of the race well. This is the right trip for him and we wanted to give him a chance in a big race back on turf.

“Famous Kid has won over a mile and three quarters, but I think 12 furlongs will be fine for him. He looks to be in good condition and we will have a look at returning to staying races with him in the future.”

The Charlie Appleby-trained Emotionless (William Buick) also switches to turf following two dirt appearances, most recently when going down by a neck to Alabaster in a 10-furlong handicap on February 9.

Charlie Appleby reported: “We were happy with Emotionless last time out and the return to turf is going to suit.

“We are looking forward to stepping him up in trip - on his latest start, he did all of his best work late on. This is a fact-finding mission on where to point him in Europe later this year.”

A field of 10 for the Dubai City Of Gold Sponsored By Emirates SkyCargo is dominated by Postponed, who has gained four G1 victories and captured this race 12 months ago.
