Ottoman Fleet produced another strong performance at Newmarket as he chased home Persica in the G3 Earl Of Sefton Stakes on Tuesday, 15 April, with First Conquest also running well in third.

Seeking a third straight win in the nine-furlong contest, and fifth course success, the Charlie Appleby-trained Ottoman Fleet raced away from his four rivals leaving the stalls before tacking over to settle in fourth, one place ahead of stable-mate First Conquest.

Ottoman Fleet took closer order in third over three furlongs out and stayed on to take second from Ambiente Friendly as Persica took up the running entering the final quarter-mile.

Persica soon kicked clear and galloped out well, with Ottoman Fleet keeping on for William Buick to go down by two and a half lengths. First Conquest made late inroads from the rear under James Doyle to finish third on the good to soft ground, a further two and a half lengths in arrears.
