G3-winning colt Off Trail steps back up in distance for the G3 Sekiya Kinen, with Golden Syrup also lining up in the mile contest at Niigata, Japan, on Sunday, 27 July.
Off Trail started his career over a mile before posting his biggest win to date over nine furlongs when getting up on the line in the G3 Radio Nikkei Sho at Fukushima last June.
Trained by Keiji Yoshimura, the Farhh homebred has dropped down to six furlongs for his two most recent starts and went down by just over eight lengths when taking on Japan’s top sprinters in the G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen on his latest start in March.
Golden Syrup posted two Stakes wins over a mile in 2021 and graduated to Listed success in November with a last-gasp victory in the seven-furlong Oro Cup at Tokyo.
The Shintaro Suzuki-trained seven-year-old ran over the Oro Cup course and distance on his first outing for six months in the Listed Paradise Stakes in mid-June, in which he came home 10th.
