Oaks A Possible Target For Ambience

A classic appearance could be ahead for consistent filly Ambience should she race up to her recent form in the G2 Wakeful Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, October 31.

A classic appearance could be ahead for consistent filly Ambience should she race up to her recent form in the G2 Wakeful Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, October 31.

In five starts to date Ambience (John O'Shea/James McDonald) is yet to miss a place, and everything she has done since her latest outing suggests she should maintain that record on Saturday.

"She came to Melbourne in very good form and she hasn't taken a backward step since her last run here," said trainer John O'Shea.

"Her work has been good, she's maintained her condition and she's happy.

"If things go right for her, she'll run another good race."

Ambience had won at her two starts prior to finishing third behind Dawnie Perfect and Honesta in the G3 Ethereal Stakes at Caulfield on October 17.

That was her first attempt at Group level and O'Shea was far from disappointed with the effort.

"She didn't handle the track at Caulfield. She was going left-handed for the first time and she's a relatively inexperienced filly," he said.

"Flemington is a much easier track to handle and she shouldn't have the same difficulties this time.

"She needs a few things to go right for her, but she's got a good draw and I think she'll be very competitive."

Ambience is a half-sister by Street Cry to the 2012 Sydney two-year-old triple crown winner Pierro.

But unlike her half-brother who won all of his six starts as a two-year-old, Ambience has been given the chance to develop her staying qualities with next Thursday's G1 VRC Oaks a possible short-term target.

"The Oaks is there if we think it's right for her," O'Shea said.

"But I just want to see her get through Saturday's race first before committing to that."

Among Ambience's strongest opposition on Saturday is Dawnie Perfect who beat her at Caulfield and My Poppette, a winner at Moonee Valley last Saturday.
