Silver Line stayed on well to finish third in the G2 Norfolk Stakes over five furlongs at Royal Ascot on Thursday, June 16.

The two-year-old colt, trained by Saeed bin Suroor and ridden by James Doyle, was slightly slow into his stride and then held up at the rear of the 11 runners.

He was switched left at halfway to make a challenge and ran on to chase the leaders a furlong and a half from home.

Silver Line continued to make headway but could not quite get to grips with the first two. He was beaten a half-length and neck respectively by Prince Of Lir, who won in 1m 1.17s on soft ground, and the second The Last Lion.

James Doyle said: "Silver Line has run well - he just lacked a bit of speed. I was happy with the early part of the race but, just when I needed him to find a few lengths, he flattened out."
