Native Trail returns in G3 Craven Stakes

Racenews

Champion juvenile Native Trail looks to resume where he left off last season as he warms up for the 2,000 Guineas in the G3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday, 13 April.

The Oasis Dream colt heads into the mile highlight of the Craven meeting following an outstanding unbeaten campaign that included impressive G1 victories in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh and Newmarket’s Darley Dewhurst Stakes.

Charlie Appleby said: “We are looking forward to seeing Native Trail get his three-year-old season started. He has wintered very well and we have been pleased with preparation, so we don’t have any negatives going into this. William Buick has ridden him plenty lately and the whole team are very happy with where the horse is.

“It’s only two and a half weeks until the 2,000 Guineas, so we feel he is not going to need the run in the Craven, but it will help click his racing brain back into gear. It’s of more benefit mentally rather than physically.”

Last season’s G3 Emirates Autumn Stakes winner Coroebus is set to have a racecourse gallop this week as part of his preparation for the 2,000 Guineas at the end of the month.

Charlie Appleby added: “Coroebus worked very well on Saturday and we decided afterwards that there was not much to potentially gain by running him in a trial. On the back of the work he showed us over the weekend, we are happy to head straight into the Guineas following a racecourse gallop.”
