Mystic Guide stars on historic day in Dubai

Racenews

Godolphin enjoyed a memorable Dubai World Cup Night at Meydan, UAE, on Saturday, 27 March, as Mystic Guide stormed to victory in the 25th running of the G1 Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline.

The homebred colt, who powered to a near four-length success over Chuwa Wizard, was the ninth horse to carry the royal blue silks to glory in the prestigious race but the first Godolphin winner to be trained in the USA.

His trainer Michael Stidham proclaimed afterwards that “the sky is the limit” for Mystic Guide and the four-year-old now looks set to take in some of North America’s premier dirt races, hopefully culminating with the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar in November.

It was a red-letter day for Mystic Guide’s dam Music Note as the five-time G1 heroine produced a colt by Medaglia d’Oro just hours earlier.

Elsewhere on Dubai World Cup Night, exciting three-year-old Rebel’s Romance continued his upward curve as he routed the opposition in the G2 UAE Derby. Next year’s Dubai World Cup is the ultimate objective for the son of Dubawi, although a trip to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby in May could be among his more immediate ambitions.

Godolphin’s US Triple Crown plans will be firmed up over the coming week as unbeaten duo Essential Quality and Prevalence tackle crucial Kentucky Derby trials on Saturday, 3 April.

Champion juvenile Essential Quality lines up in Keeneland’s G2 Blue Grass Stakes, while Prevalence ships up to New York for the G2 Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct.

Final Song, who has reached new heights as a sprinter this season, added a valuable G1 second to her profile in the Al Quoz Sprint on the Dubai World Cup undercard.

On the same day in Australia, Anamoe and Ingratiating also secured G1 placings when coming home second and third in the world’s richest two-year-old race, the Golden Slipper at Rosehill.
