More G3 Black Type for Althiqa in Sceptre Stakes

Racenews

Althiqa secured a third consecutive placing in G3 company when coming home second in the Sceptre Stakes over seven furlongs at Doncaster, UK, on Wednesday, 9 September.

The Charlie Appleby-trained filly, third in the G3 Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood in July before going one place better in the G3 Prix de Lieurey at Deauville, France, in August, broke smartly and soon tracked the leaders.

Althiqa quickened well under William Buick to take up the running approaching the final furlong and a half. She battled gamely in front but was headed with half a furlong to race by Foxtrot Lady, who went clear in the closing stages to score by a length and a quarter.

Charlie Appleby said: “I was very pleased with Althiqa, who put up another solid effort against older opposition. She could be a filly we take to Dubai over the winter for the nice Group races for fillies and mares at the Carnival.”
