Kitesurf narrowly beaten in Prix de Royallieu

Racenews

Kitesurf bounced back to form with a close third in the G2 Prix de Royallieu over a mile and a half at Chantilly, France, on Saturday, September 30.

The Andre Fabre-trained filly, a course and distance winner in the G3 Prix de Royaumont in June, tracked The Juliet Rose in second for most of the race before moving up to press for the lead under Mickael Barzalona entering the final quarter mile.

She held every chance with a furlong left but could not get on terms with The Juliet Rose and was passed by Listen In near the line to go down by a short neck and a head.

The Juliet Rose made all to record a second successive victory in the Prix de Royallieu, scoring in 2m 35.55s on soft ground.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin commented: “We are delighted with Kitesurf and it was probably a career-best effort from her today.

“There are no plans and we will see how she comes out of this race before discussing next season but it was a great to see her run so well in a G2 contest.”
