King Of Conquest continues to make hay with Festival Stakes success

Racenews

King Of Conquest notched a fourth consecutive win as he bravely saw off the previously unbeaten Francesco Clemente in the Listed Festival Stakes at Goodwood, UK, on Saturday, 27 May.

Stepping up to a mile and a quarter on the back of three handicap victories, King Of Conquest soon raced in second of the five runners as Jack Darcy opened up a clear lead.

Phantom Flight moved up on the outside of King Of Conquest six furlongs out before the Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old quickened down the inner rail to hit the front over a furlong from home.

Francesco Clemente challenged strongly inside the final furlong but King Of Conquest found more under James Doyle, holding on gamely for a neck victory.

Charlie Appleby said: “King Of Conquest brought a progressive profile into the race and has improved again to win at this level. The most logical next step might be the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot.”
