King George Stakes second for Profitable

Racenews
Profitable produced another good run to finish second in the G2 King George Stakes over five furlongs on day four of Glorious Goodwood, Friday, August 4.

The Clive Cox-trained five-year-old, also runner-up on both his previous starts this season in the G3 Prix de Saint-Georges and G1 King’s Stand Stakes, showed good early speed and soon raced in sixth of the 11 runners.

Profitable moved up to fifth for James Doyle at the halfway stage and ran on to go second just inside the final furlong but could not challenge Battaash, who won by two and a quarter lengths in 58.51s on soft ground.

Clive Cox said: “Profitable has run his race and I am really pleased with him. All credit to the winner.

“I don’t know where we will go next with him.”

James Doyle added: “I’m very happy with Profitable.

“He travelled into the race nicely, we got a little bit tight and Battaash crossed us, but when we switched out he plugged away nicely.

“It was probably just the ground - it is very hard work.”
