Hot Sire Dubawi basking in the glory of two brilliant Juveniles

J A McGrath

The Dubawi colt Too Darn Hot joined an illustrious list of G1 Dewhurst Stakes winners when stamping his authority on the latest renewal of this exacting seven-furlong test on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile on Saturday.

His name now sits alongside stars such as El Gran Senor, Shamardal, Teofilo, New Approach and Frankel, and his exploits next year will determine how he is ultimately assessed within that elite group.

Trainer John Gosden is on record as saying that the colt’s optimum range of distances might prove to be one mile to 10 furlongs.

Whatever the outcome, Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s homebred, named after a Cole Porter song written for the hit musical Kiss Me Kate, is another son of Darley stallion Dubawi to excel as a two-year-old.

He joins Godolphin juvenile Quorto, who captured headlines for his sire when winning the G1 National Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday, 16 September, which was to be his final outing as a two-year-old.

There is every likelihood that Dubawi will have the two highest-rated juveniles in Europe when the final rankings are published early next year.

Too Darn Hot, who is out of the Singspiel mare Dar Re Mi (very talented herself on the racecourse) is now unbeaten in four starts. He looks a highly promising colt.

Meanwhile, Godolphin’s Osborne Bulls took the scenic route up the grandstand rail in the mud to snatch third place in The Everest at Randwick on Saturday. He picked up a cheque for more than A$1.25m for the minor placing.
