Good Royal Ascot second for Platinum Star

Racenews

Two-year-old Platinum Star, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, ran well to finish the half-length second in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes over five furlongs at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, 19 June.

He was pushed along by Christophe Soumillon after breaking from stall 22 before and was settled towards the rear of the 21-strong field.

Platinum Star started to improve his position after halfway and raced closest to the stands’ side of the runners. He made good progress to challenge the leader Southern Hills inside the final furlong, but could not quite get to the winner, who won in 1m 3.05s on soft ground.

Saeed bin Suroor commented: “Platinum Star ran very well. He has won over six furlongs already, but a stiff five would be a good trip for him.

“We will be looking for a Group race for him - he is a class horse. The ground was a bit heavy for him today.”
