Golden Syrup hopes to keep victories flowing in G3 Sekiya Kinen

Racenews

Golden Syrup bids for a fourth straight win over a mile on his belated seasonal return in the G3 Sekiya Kinen at Niigata, Japan, on Sunday, 14 August.

The Havana Gold colt enjoyed an unbeaten second half to his three-year-old campaign for Tetsuya Kimura, commencing with victory in a Tokyo conditions race.

Golden Syrup went on to comfortably take a Nakayama Stakes contest in September before ending his season with another Stakes success back at Tokyo in November, when he beat G1 NHK Mile Cup fourth Rickenbacker by half a length.

He finished eighth on his only previous Group-race appearance in the G2 Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho Deep Impact Kinen at Nakayama in April, 2021 – a Classic trial that produced Kikuka Sho winner Titleholder and NHK Mile Cup victor Schnell Meister.
