Game Twilight Payment close second in Irish St Leger Trial Twilight Payment ran well when the gutsy neck second in the G3 Irish St Leger Trial over a mile and six furlongs at the Curragh, Ireland, on Saturday, 25 August.

The five-year-old son of Teofilo, ridden as usual by Kevin Manning, raced in second of the seven runners as Flag Of Honour led. Twilight Payment moved up to challenge in the straight and drew level one and a half furlongs out.

It was neck and neck until Flag Of Honour rallied in the closing stages and edged ahead of the Godolphin runner.

The winning time was 3m 4.61s on good ground. Jim Bolger, Twilight Payment’s trainer, remarked: “This was a very good run and he will be aimed at the Irish St Leger (G1, 14f, September 16, the Curragh).

“We think Twilight Payment is improving and hopefully he will continue to do so.

“He has a bright future and goes on any ground.

“We feel that two miles may suit him best and he should stay two and a half miles.”
