G3 third for Althiqa in Oak Tree Stakes

Racenews

Althiqa added some G3 Black Type to her progressive profile with a staying-on third in the Oak Tree Stakes over seven furlongs at Goodwood, UK, on Friday, 31 July.

The Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old, a Listed winner over the same trip at Deauville, France, on Sunday, 12 July, broke smartly and was soon covered up behind the leaders in sixth by William Buick. She quickened to go third with half a furlong to race and galloped out well, coming home just over a length behind dual G1 winner One Master.

Charlie Appleby said: “We are very pleased with Althiqa, who has backed up her win at Deauville with another excellent run. It is nice to see her place in a G3 race and we may think about stepping her up to a mile now, as it looks as though it might suit.”
