G3 second for Well Of Wisdom in Germany

Racenews

Well Of Wisdom produced another battling display when filling the runner-up spot in the seven-furlong G3 Zukunfts-Rennen at Baden-Baden, Germany, on Saturday, 31 August.

The Charlie Appleby-trained two-year-old colt, who also finished second in the G3 Darley Prix de Cabourg at Deauville, France, at the end of July, raced freely in fourth of the 10-strong field before moving up to third leaving the back straight.

Well Of Wisdom stayed on to dispute the running over a furlong from home and rallied to see off the challenges of Above and Virginia Joy with half a furlong left, but was immediately headed by the running-on Alson.

The Godolphin runner kept on under James Doyle to finish two lengths behind Alson, who won in 1m 25.07s on good ground, with another half a length back to Above in third.

Charlie Appleby said: “Well Of Wisdom has backed up his good run at Deauville with another solid effort at G3 level.

“He battled all the way to the line and stepping him up in trip could be on the cards.”
