G3 second for Grecian Light

Grecian Light ran well to finish runner-up in the seven-furlong G3 C L & M F Weld Park Stakes on turf that had turned heavy after rain at the Curragh, Ireland, on Sunday, September 25.

The two-year-old Shamardal filly, slightly slow into stride under William Buick, was held up among the main group who raced in the middle of the course before coming home on the stands’ side.

Initially sixth of her group, she progressed to third and briefly went to the front before being headed by the winner Eziyra but kept on to finish two lengths adrift, with another four and a quarter lengths back to the third. The winner’s time was 1m 30.36s.

Grecian Light’s trainer Charlie Appleby commented: "I was delighted with her run.

"Conditions turned to heavy just before the race but she handled the ground and put up another sound performance.

"William feels that seven furlongs is her trip, while Grecian Light is obviously very versatile as regards the going but I feel she will be suited by better ground.

"We will see how she comes out of this race before considering going for the Oh So Sharp Stakes (G3, 7f, Newmarket, October 7)."
