G3 Honeybee Stakes bid by Sunset Wish

Racenews

Sunset Wish makes her G3 debut in the Honeybee Stakes over an extended mile on dirt at Oaklawn Park, USA, on Saturday, 9 March.

The Michael Stidham-trained three-year-old filly kept on to finish a close fourth at the same course in the Martha Washington Stakes over half a furlong shorter on Saturday, 2 February.

Sunset Wish had previously racked up a hat-trick of wins, following up victories over a mile at Penn National (maiden) and Fair Grounds (allowance) with an impressive display in the extended seven-furlong Take Charge Brandi Stakes at Delta Downs at the start of January.

Ramon Vazquez comes in for the ride on Sunset Wish, who is drawn three in a field of 10 three-year-old fillies which also features G1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes fourth Chocolate Kisses and the first two home in the Martha Washington Stakes – Power Gal and Marathon Queen.

Michael Stidham remarked: “Sunset Wish is coming up against a similar field to the one she faced in the Martha Washington Stakes, when she was trapped down the inside with nowhere to go for the entire race.

“I am hoping that she can rebound from that effort with a better trip this time, which will give her a good chance at this level.”
