G2 May Hill Stakes third for Alpen Rose

Racenews

Alpen Rose acquitted herself well on her Pattern debut with a staying-on third in the mile G2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster, UK, on Thursday, 12 September.

The two-year-old filly, successful in a maiden over the same course and distance for Charlie Appleby on Saturday, 17 August, was covered up in eighth of the nine runners by William Buick.

Alpen Rose started to take closer order passing the two-furlong pole and quickened strongly to go third approaching the final half-furlong.

She galloped out well to go down by a length and a quarter in total to Powerful Breeze, who won in 1m 39.31s on good to firm ground.

Charlie Appleby said: “We were pleased with the run of Alpen Rose. It was a little bit of a messy race in terms of pace but she did it all the right way round.

“We will let her tell us how she is over the next couple of weeks before deciding whether to give her another run this season or put her away for the winter. She looks a nice filly for middle-distance races next year."
